Care Tips for Your Garden Hose 2

Seasonal Care

Winter precautions

Whenever winter comes, gardeners everywhere prepare in advance to protect their plants. So too, garden hoses need some care in winter so that they can be in the best condition next spring.

In winter, because the temperature is low, water is easy to freeze. The remaining water in the hose is likely to freeze and cause the hose to be blocked or even burst. Therefore, after use, be sure to drain all the water in the hose and air dry it. At the same time, due to the temperature, the hose is best stored indoors, in the garage, utility room, etc. to prevent freezing.

Summer maintenance

The biggest damage to the hose in summer is strong sunlight. Ultraviolet rays will have a certain impact on the outside and inside of the hose. Long-term exposure to the sun will reduce the service life of the hose, so just place the hose in a cool and ventilated place.

How to Properly Drain Your Garden Hose

We have mentioned before that draining the water pipe can better protect the water pipe, but how to drain the water pipe correctly and effectively is also something we need to consider and learn. Therefore, here are some ways to properly drain the water pipe, so that we can get twice the result with half the effort after using the water pipe.

1. Elevate one end: After turning off the water, keep the spray gun open to drain the excess water first. Lift one end of the hose and let gravity flow the water to the other end.

2. Straighten and walk: Starting from the raised end, straighten the hose and move it down to the other end. This process ensures that all the water flows in one direction, so that water will flow out of the other end continuously. But please be careful not to pull the hose down too fast, so that the water in the hose has enough time to flow down. In this way, the water in the hose can be effectively discharged by moving the hose forward little by little. After following the above process, it is best to lift the nozzle one more time to ensure that water is not trapped in any bends.

3. Hang to dry: Hang the hose in a cool place without winding it to ensure that all the water in the hose can be drained. After leaving it for a few hours, put the hose back into the bag so that it can be kept in good condition the next time you use it.
